Loved the characters, remembered them from the Huntress but this was them before. for me it was a quick read..action,love,drama even cried in the end. family doesn’t always mean blood relatives. i can relate have quite a few of those. it’s a brotherhood. if you didn’t enjoy it you didn’t pay attention to what it was about!

“In Times of Violence” isn’t my usual choice of reading material, but I really enjoyed it! It’s gritty, dark, and (as the title suggests!) very violent in parts – probably not suitable for those who are squeamish or overly sensitive.
Karina Kantas writes with an honesty that I can appreciate and makes the journey through Jade’s tale smoother.

Jade is flawed like the rest of us
Having not read anything in this genre, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Jade, the main character, is flawed like the rest of us, leaving her unhappy home to find her niche in the world. Attracted to the leader of a biker gang, she makes herself known to him, gradually gaining a place as his girlfriend. The life they lead is fascinating, and she is accepted as one of the family, giving her the confidence she has always wanted.
The story takes place over a period of time, and love, betrayal, and danger run throughout. I like the way Ms. Kantas weaves her spell, one that will have you looking forward to the next book in this series.

Want to know more about this YA urban thriller? What better way than hearing all about it from the author and as a bonus a two page reading from the book. Enjoy.
I fell in love with the book The Outsiders and then the film. I became an author because of S.E.Hintons’s novellas.
The reason The Outsiders became such a loved and well known book was because every reader resonated with it.They cared about these toughies. They understand why they had to be hard. This was my Goal. And I’m thankful that the readers feel and see where I’m coming from. They understand why the Tyrants played a role. If people feared you, it meant they wouldn’t stand on you. If you were respected, no one would say anything bad to you again and if you had a family of brothers, you wouldn’t have to deal with your parents shit.
Want another short narration?
Warning this has violence and swearing in this clip.
In Times of Violence short reading
When things got bad, they would deal with it using their issues with a fist. Violence for them was letting go of all the pain. Yes, of course it was wrong. But that was all the Tyrants knew.
Keep reading for a chance to win the ultimate OUTLAW swag

Born in the midlands UK, I grew up in a poor, rough area of town and used my writing to escape an unsettling reality. Delving deep into my characters’ minds and hearts, I give my readers thought provoking and sometimes dark story-lines.
No matter what genre of fiction I write, you’ll always hear loud rock music playing while I work, as it allows me to fade away and become one with my characters.
Don’t except happy endings in my novels as I write about real life. What you will get, is exciting story-lines that will have you glued to the pages and eager for more.

Huntress
Okay, I might not be the smartest woman in the world, but that doesn’t mean I’m dumb enough not to have realized that all was not what it seemed when it came to my parents.
Although they attempted to hide their true nature behind airs and graces, Jade, my mother, let her tongue slip occasionally. And when my parents argued, boy could they swear. It was like an explosion, as though they’d been holding it in for too long. All of a sudden, they would remember themselves, look at one another in disgust and then return to their charade.
Another clue that the pretty picture was a painting after all, was their association with Beth and Clay, two hard-core bikers; bikers that didn’t have a problem popping pills or smoking marijuana in front of me. In fact, when they deemed me old enough, they offered me my share.
My brother John took an overdose and killed himself when he discovered the truth. He was only twenty-two.
I suppose I blame myself, but John should never have read my diary.
Clay is my godfather. My father, Marcus, was the best man at Beth and Clay’s wedding. He’s always been straight with me; told me how it was whether I could take the truth or not.
One late, warm afternoon, the three of us were sitting on their veranda chatting, when I dared to bring up the taboo subject of my parents’ first meeting.
What Beth and Clay revealed changed my whole outlook on life. It changed who I was.

EXCERPT
I love this scene in the book I hope you do too.
An hour of hard drinking and partying passed, when the doorman came up and handed her a note. Thinking she had a secret admirer and that she might be in for a good time, Ice opened the note and scanned the message.
The six words written down were enough to get her heart racing. “Meet me round back of the club R.” She knew who R was. Taking her coat from the back of her chair, she slipped out of the club unnoticed.
When Ice turned the corner, she found Raven dressed in leathers and sitting on a bike.
“Shit, what the hell are you doing here? How did you find out where I was?” Ice whispered as she looked over her shoulder to make sure no one was watching.
“It wasn’t difficult. Look, I know it’s risky, but I didn’t have a choice. We need your help.”
“Fuck, Raven, this is my sister’s wedding reception. I can’t just walk out. You promised me this night.”
“I know. Look, forget what you owe me; I’ll owe you. I need you to come with me now.”
“What, now? Dressed like this,” Ice cried, looking down at her silk gown.
“It’s not quite the look I wanted,” Raven joked. “There’s no time to argue. Get on.”
Ice knew an order when given, so taking the helmet Raven offered, she gathered up the bottom of her silk dress and stepped onto the bike.
Raven speedily left the car park. Ice looked behind and was grateful that no one saw her leaving, especially being on a back of a motorbike with a leather-clad rider.
“Fuck, my sister’s never gonna let me forget this,” Ice cursed. “Where we going anyway?” She called.
“Back to Northampton,” Raven shouted back. “Hey, if everything turns out okay, you can still make it back before they cut the cake.”
Ice doubted it. Thankful that she was wearing a warm coat, Ice shut the visor and leaned on Raven’s back as she raced down the motorway towards Northampton. And here’s me thinking I wasn’t coming back here until tomorrow afternoon. She owes me big for this.
They had only just passed the Northampton sign when Raven turned into the Riverside Industrial Estate. Slowing down, she parked her bike opposite a large warehouse.
“What the hell are we doing here?” Ice asked carefully stepping off the bike. Flattening down the creases of her dress, she caught up with Raven who had already crossed the road.
“The plan was to borrow some files, but Eve’s gone and got herself fucking locked in the office. Don’t ask how it happened. The security guards due to do his rounds at eleven. We’ve got to get her out of there.”
Ice looked at the time displayed on her gold watch. “Shit, that only gives us ten minutes. Where’s the office?”
Picking up her skirt, she ran behind Raven and hoped she wasn’t going to have to scale a wall. Thankfully, they entered the building via a propped open fire-exit door.
“This way,” Raven whispered.
The warehouse was cold and dark. Night lighting only made the scene even more sinister. Ice imagined the headlines if she was arrested dressed like a prom queen. The newspapers would have a field day
After running down the length of the warehouse, the rest of the Kittnz came into view. They were still standing outside the office where Raven had left them.
Storm was smoking a spliff, looking as though she didn’t have a care in the world. Jade laughed at someone’s joke.
“Nice to see you’re keeping a good watch,” Raven said, making Jade jump.
On seeing Ice, Scarlet snorted. “I didn’t know it was formal dress,”
“If I’d known, I would have changed into something more appropriate,” Storm added with a smirk.
Jade sniggered.
“Yeah okay, very funny. Jokes on me- ha ha! How much time to we have?”
“Four minutes,”
Unpinning her hair, Ice took two clips and pushed them into the lock of the office door. After a minute of moving them around, trying to find the correct position, the door unlocked.
Eve opened the door so fast, Ice fell into the office, flat on her face. Ignoring the sniggers behind her, she picked herself off the floor.
“I knew you could do it,” Eve greeted. “You look beautiful, by the way.”
“Thanks,” Ice answered. “Raven, if you’ve got everything you need, we better get out of here.”
“We haven’t had a chance. Bimbo here locked herself in the moment she entered.”
“Fuck – okay, you get the files; I’ll go and stall the guard. Jade, you come with me, you can listen out and let the others know when it safe to leave.”
“How do you plan to stall the guard?” Scarlet asked.
“Oh, I’m sure I’ll think of something,” Ice smiled. “I hope to God the guard is male.”
The Kittnz chuckled, then entered the office and began their search.
Ice was sitting outside the now shut fire-exit door. When she saw the guard turn the corner, she started sobbing.
“Hey, who are you? What you doing here? This is private property,” he shouted, and walked briskly toward her.
Ice knew her performance had to be an Oscar winner if she and the rest of the Kittnz were going to get out of there.
“Oh, thank God,” she cried. “I was looking around, hoping someone would be here.”
Standing up, she wiped away her non-existent tears. The security guard, a young guy with blonde hair and blue eyes, did a double take when he saw Ice close up.
“What are you doing here,” he repeated, gently.
Ice sniffed. “I had a fight with my boyfriend. It was stupid, but I made him stop the car and I got out. The bastard drove off and left me,” Ice sobbed some more. “I was hoping there would be someone here. I don’t suppose you have a phone I could use? Could you call me a taxi? I’ll be ever so grateful.” Ice finished with a sexy smile.
Putting his arm around her shoulder, they walked away from the exit door.
“It’s okay. Of course I’ll phone you a taxi. I have a phone in my cabin. Don’t worry. Come on.”
“Oh, thank you,” Ice sniffed. “What’s your name?”
“Jimmy, but you can call me Jim, if you like.”
“Jim, you’ve really helped me out. I don’t know how I can ever repay you,” For emphasis, she put her arm around his waist and snuggled on his shoulder.
He made the first move even before they got to the cabin. Pushing Ice up against the wall, he kissed her hungrily. When she responded, he gathered up the skirt of her dress and groped his way past all the netting, until his hand found what it was looking for. Ice gasped as his fingers slowly teased their way down and started to probe. She was so hot; there was no way she was going to tell him to stop. However, they were still on the Kittnz escape route, and Ice didn’t want to have sex outdoors, not when there was a perfectly good office nearby.
Gabbing hold of his balls, she whispered in his ear.
“I want you so bad. I want to feel you inside of me. I’m ready, but not here, please. I want you to see all of me. I want us to be naked, to explore, and taste one another.”
She nibbled his ear and felt satisfied when he returned with a deep sigh.
Taking her hand, they ran down the path, turned left from the warehouse, and ran into a small building that was no bigger than the Kittnz garage, but big enough for what Ice had planned.

EXCERPT
I didn’t go to the Jester again for a couple of days. I gave Shep the excuse about being tired. I just couldn’t bear the thought of facing Bre and Tex again. I knew I couldn’t avoid the place for long, though. I never did tell Shep what happened that night. He had a short fuse, and I didn’t want him starting a fight with one of his friends over me. Well, that was what any decent guy would do for his girlfriend. However, things didn’t run that way in Rage, as I was to find out that evening.
After we got our drinks, we headed to where the others were seated.
“Hey,” I greeted. I wasn’t expecting an answer.
Blade indicated to Shep to leave. I was left alone with seven male members staring at me. It didn’t go unnoticed that Bre wasn’t present. I looked for her the minute I walked into the bar. I was secretly glad I didn’t have to spend the night looking over my shoulder worrying what she was thinking or saying about me.
“So where’s Bre tonight?” I asked no one in particular.
“Yeah, about that,” Blade said. His smile quickly changed into a scorn. “You lay a hand on another patched member again, and you’ll suffer a Rage beating. Do we understand each other?”
“If you’re a hang around, property of the club, anyone can have you,” Turbo said.
“No, they fucking can’t,” I yelled. “And God help them if they try.”
I looked at each of their faces. They were serious. I wasn’t about to push it or explain to them about being molested by two of their members. I doubted Blade would give a shit anyhow. So I just nodded my head and silently vowed that if another patch tried it on with me, I’d make sure I wouldn’t walk away so easily.
“I’m gonna let that go for now, out of respect for Shep. But you’re not a member of this club, and it’s the first and only time I’m gonna be lenient.”
Folding his arms, he stared hard into my face. I stared back. He didn’t intimidate me.
“So what we gonna do with you?” Turbo sighed.
“You want in?” Gbh asked.
I was shocked. That was the last thing I was expecting. I hadn’t given it much thought up until then. I was happy enough hanging out with the club. I should have known hanging with them meant I’d become club property. I was Shep’s girlfriend and happened to like riding fast bikes. I enjoyed being associated with their name, but I wasn’t about to allow any female or male arsehole mess with me, whenever they felt like it. I’d rather walk away than go through that prospect stage again.
Blade didn’t wait for an answer.
“To become a member of Rage, you need to own and be able to handle a super bike. We’ve seen what you’re capable of, so you have that part covered.”
Again, I was shocked. So they had been watching me race. I felt honoured that I’d finally gotten their attention.
“But you haven’t been here long enough to bring anything into the club. Why should we allow you to join?”
“Membership is limited to those that we feel deserve the honour,” Turbo added.
“And what’s in it for me?” I asked.
Doc laughed and then replied. “Status, respect and money.”
“Sounds good.” I smiled.
“Okay,” Blade said. “These are your options. You can either remain as a hang around or prove your worth.”
“And how do I prove myself?”
“You and Bre have a problem with one another. If you’re to be a member of this club, we need to get it fixed. I won’t have any hostilities between members. You want in, you fight Bre one on one. You win. You get your patch. But I warn you, if you don’t pull your weight, you’ll be out. Decide now. You either stay and become Rage’s property, you fight Bre, win and get your patch, or you walk away and don’t show your face again.”
“What’s Shep say about this ultimatum?”
“He doesn’t have a say,” Doc barked.
“So, what are you gonna do?” Turbo asked.
“I’ll fight,” I said.
Blade nodded his head. “Be at my house at nine o’clock on Friday evening. Gbh will give you the address. I don’t want to see you around here until then. You got it?”
“Yeah, I understand,” I said, and then stood up while I waited for Gbh to write down Blade’s address.
I found Shep leaning against the bar. He’d been watching the interaction.
“Take me home?” I said.
“Sure thing, let me speak with Blade first, okay?”
“Okay. I’ll meet you outside.”
I left the bar without another word.
As I stood outside waiting for Shep, I lit up a cigarette and inhaled deeply. My mind was reeling. What the hell was I getting myself into? I’d already walked away from years of high status within a club, and now I was thinking about starting off at the bottom again. And although Rage was in a different league to the Hawks, I was surprised at how similar their club rules were.
Shit. And then there was the fight I had to contend with. I wasn’t worried about going one on one with Bre. I was certain I could take her without too much effort. I doubted she had as much fighting experience as me. Only it had been a long time since I’d been involved in a serious brawl. And what was it Doc said I’d get in return? Status, respect and money. To be associated with Rage would be cool. Respect, well that was always a plus as long as that included respect from Rage. But where did the money factor come into it?
How much were these guys making on the races? I knew you could make good money racing professional, but it also took a lot of money to keep the club set up. Sponsorship would help. Even so, the money had to come from somewhere. In fact, it made me wonder just how many members actually came from rich families and which members made their money from Rage. Money was something I’d never had a lot of.
I’d already agreed to fight Bre, and that was going to happen whether I joined the club or not. I needed to get her off my back, and the bitch needed to be taught a lesson.
“Did you know that was going down tonight?” I asked Shep when we got back to my place.
“Yeah, I had a feeling. What did you expect, Gem? You slammed Tex down with your God damn lid, gave him a concussion for Christ’s sake. You got off easy.”
“The bastard tried it on with me,” I yelled. “He practically raped me in the car park.”
I saw Shep’s fists clench. At last, some emotion.
“And,” he said. “That still didn’t give you the right to punch out two of our members.”
The word ‘our’ made me step away from him. I was an outsider, even to Shep. I’d gotten it wrong. He had no intention of defending me.
“Will it get better?” I asked, my voice raising an octave. “If I join your club, will they finally respect me? Will you?”
Shep walked towards me and pulled me into his chest.
“I do respect you, Gem. But there is only so much I can do.”
“What I don’t understand is that they hate me, so why would they want me to join?”
“They don’t hate you. I wouldn’t be with you now if they felt that way. Shit, half of the guys fantasize daily about you. Blade’s impressed with your riding skills and thinks you’ll be a great asset. And I think you’ve made a friend for life with Dawn. Oh, and Doc’s got it bad.”
“What do you mean?”
“He really digs you. Can’t you tell?”
I shrugged.
“And in answer to your question,” he continued. “Yes, it will get better. For now, you’re an outsider and Rage is wary of outsiders.”
